Wandering down Rainey St one boiling hot Sunday, Cristina and I stumbled upon what has to be the best donuts I have ever had.
These donuts are cooked right in front of you, dusted and covered with the most delicious cinnamon sugar and then handed to you with a smile.
It had to have been 39c/102f degrees outside and the man in the metal truck still had a chat and a laugh with us while he was cooking these beauties up.
From the Little Lucy’s website:
“Little Lucy’s story starts with a young boy who would visit San Francisco’s Pier 39 to frequent a shop that had his favorite treat: mini-donuts. After polishing off a bag of the mini-donuts, he would fold up the bag and save it in his velcro wallet as a reminder of the deliciousness he had just experienced. This boy would wait months until he could return and when he did, he would unfold the bag from his wallet to get a refill. To him, those mini-donuts were the entire reason for a trek to San Francisco. Later, as an adult he returned to the same shop with a friend who instantly became a fellow mini-donut lover and business partner. Together, they have gone through countless measures to bring the same goodness to home — in Austin, TX. With the help of a little pup named Lucy (our mascot and inspiration), the dream came to life.”
I totally get the obsession. I would come back to Texas for these.
